Shades at Grays

I'm Sue Ingram and John Barr (JB - or him-in-the-shed) is my other half.

We set up a small business, based on Grays Road in Plimmerton, so we could devote more of our time to creating beautiful products that fill us with pride and joy.

My fabric lampshades provide the magic of light transformed through handcrafted fabric artistry. Each lampshade is a testament to the power of colour and pattern to create atmosphere, just as a well-placed painting can transform a room.

JB lets ancient timber talk to him as he works to upcycle wood that might otherwise be discarded. From wharf timber, ancient tōtara posts and abandoned carpenter’s planes he creates stunning wood lamps – each one carefully crafted to retain its story and continue its journey.

People can buy our work online at www.shadesatgrays.co.nz, or make an appointment to visit our workshop. Alternatively we attend regular markets in the lower North Island. We love talking lighting and are always happy to help with your queries.

Artists

Our local artists are constantly taking risks and believe that inspiration can be found wherever they look. So that you can be more connected with each other, we'll be providing a fully interactive Artist Hub for artists and organisations to upload information about themselves and their work.
